| boxed card | A card encountered face-up in the assembled deck during the deal, as opposed to one overturned in the act of dealing. Most house rules treat a boxed card as if it didn't exist; that is, it is placed aside and not used. Different rules cover cards exposed during the deal. | U |
| dirty stack | A stack of chips apparently of a single denomination, but with one or more chips of another. Usually the result of inattention while stacking a pot, but may also be an intentional deception. | U |

| gypsy | To enter the pot cheaply by just calling the blind rather than raising. Also "limp". | U |
| satellite | A tournament in which the prize is a free entrance to another (larger) tournament. | U |
| Body Posture and Attitude | Some players show obvious changes in their posture based on their attitude/hand strength. For instance, you may notice their shoulders drop/slump when they are not confident (weak hand). Conversely, you may notice the player is very attentive and sitting in an erect position when he has strength. You may also notice that a player who bluffs a lot, leans forward in a confrontational way... remember Strong is Weak! | U |
| short stack | A stack of chips that is relatively small for the stakes being played. | U |
| grinder | A player who earns a living by making small profits over a long period of consistent, conservative play. Compare to "rock". | U |
